Student Voice

At Woodside, we understand the importance of our students’ views and opinions and provide opportunity for discussion on important issues through Year Councils and the School Council. Council members are elected by their peers in elections conducted in September of each year.

Each class elects democratically elects two representatives to serve on the Year Council.  The role of the class representatives is to consult at with their peers over issues that arise at Year Council Meetings and report back to their class at the earliest opportunity after each Year Council meeting.  Each class also elects two deputy class representatives, in case of absence.                                                                                            Woodside School Council

At the first meeting of each Year Council, students elect a chairperson and secretary.  Minutes of the meetings are taken and are available to all representatives in the week following each meeting.  The aim of this is to ensure that every student can be kept informed and to generate further interest in issues discussed.  Minutes are usually posted on the year notice board by the Attainment Manager or Mr. Loggenberg, School Council Co-ordinator.

Prefects, Head Boy and Head Girl

We provide our students with the opportunity to take on more responsibility within the school.  Prospective candidates must undergo election for the role and will be voted in by staff and students. Elections for Prefects and Head Boy/Head Girl by Year10 students take place in the summer term.

Prefects, Head Boy and Head Girl will wear distinctive ties and badges and have additional responsibilities involving work with students and staff.  Prefects also attend assemblies.

Additionally, there are opportunities to become subject ambassadors.  These ambassadors are appointed to promote particular subjects and are trained and engaged in a range of activities, including staff appointments, the observation of learning and teaching, supporting clubs and helping with displays.
